I'm about to send off my UCAS application form for a social work degree at a number of universities. I'm just wondering if I should also be applying for a back up course in case I don't get in. I was told by my college tutor (I'm currently doing an access course) not to because it makes me look flippant as thoughtI'm not sure what course I want to do. This makes sense but if I didn't get the grades I need for social work then what? If I apply for a back up with less points requirements, then surely that gives me more options?

Also, my personal statement obviously isn't aimed at another course besides social work

    Cheers.

I think if you don’t get in you can call the clearing team and they will be able to offer you a different course. I’m thinking they may put you in foundation and you progress from there onwards to the actual course

Your tutor is correct, it will make you look unfocused. As stated above, there is always clearing - or next year.
