Loans for EU nationals

Hello. I am portuguese and i moved to the Uk around march of 2013. I began school halfway through year 9 in england and have been studying since then until i finished college back in July and I am currently in my gap year. That means i have been living in the uk for almost 5 years. I'm applying to university (september 2018 start) and i am going to apply to student finance. I know you need to be living in the uk for 3 years for the normal student loan and 5 years for the maintenance loan. Does that mean i should wait until next year to apply for both or can i still apply now and still be accepted?

If you are are applying for a course that starts in September 2018, you can apply when the applications are available early next year, we do not have a specific date yet.

As an EU National to apply as a Home student, you need to have five years residency in the UK up to Setember 1, 2018, but you do not need to wait until after that date to make the application.

Thank you for the help. So i can't apply until I have been here for 5 years? Is that for both the loans? I was told that i should apply to student finance through gov.uk and that i could do it already (they didn't know i was an EU national).
