Frozen Veg

Chocolate ice cream.
Beep.
Bag of crisps.
Beep.
Apple Juice.
Beep.
Frozen Veg.
Beep.
Bourbon biscuits.
Beep.
Mushrooms.
Beep.
Who are you?
Yeah you, in the queue
You're impatient
I can see it in those complacent eyes,
Selfish, judging. Don't realise
That we are equals, in human form
We've got arms and a chest and one day we were born
There may be some difference: I'm young and you're old
But we're both here in LIDL so no need to be cold

£16.60. I'll pay by card
I've done 2 week's shop without my bank balance scarred
And you with your eyes, and your face, and your sneer
You might be a snob but you're still shopping here
I take my receipt and ready my trolley...
But wait.

Hold on.
That bag, was it mine?
That's the frozen veg.
I can't see it on my trolley.
Is it further down? I can't see, I don't know.
I don't want to leave without the food I've bought.
I place an uncertain hand on it, consumed in thought.
A pause, a silence, the cashier stares
LIDL has stopped for you and your glares
"What are you doing?"
I'm not sure what to say.
I can't even remember who asked me that.
The embarrassment is real.
"Oh. Is this yours?" I ask you politely
Innocently really, though you'll still try to slight me
"Yeah that's mine"
Now I'm truly going red
Turning my trolley in awkwardness to find my frozen veg (and my dignity)
You take my place and your eyes meet mine
And you say, with some scorn, "Tut. You tried"

Tried what?
What?
What do you think I've done?
Who even are you?
Why is it your business what I'm doing?
Can people not make mistakes?
Leave me to my biscuits and crisps and ice cream, and my frozen veg.
I respect you and your food choices, (clearly they're similar).
So yes I'm angry.
Because why me?
You think I'm a thief?
Because I'm young???
Or worse because I LOOK young???

Do me a favour mate, learn some respect.
You've put me off my day with your foul dialect.
I'm a good person. Don't need your validation.
Don't disrespect people who you don't even know.
I leave with my trolley
Bag on my shoulder
The words ringing in my ears
My blood is boiling
Who knew LIDL could be so emotive?

So let me tell you,
And all those like you,
Something about young people.
That we may make mistakes, we may do things wrong
We may learn from these moments to help us stay strong.
That we have feelings, rights and views
And our voice in this world can't be abused
Because we are the future, and boy that feels weird
And you won't be there, with your face; or your beard.
I'm very polite
Wouldn't hurt a fly
But you angered me
I cannot deny
All of us have, a little voice inside
Called true feelings, that we like to hide
And I will tell you, here in this place
The thoughts I now have
About you, with your face
Sit down and listen, and don't scoff
Whilst I tell you, very nicely, to **** off.

 I don't have "ways"

Just try to find a rhythm.:dontknow: You don't have to maintain that rhythm all the time: breaking it deliberately can be cool, but the rhythm is what makes it a poem not a story.

Not sure what to call this one and don't think it's one of my best. Hope you like it though.

Home
Where you receive the most love.
Where you can be honest, be yourself, be you
Not being cool, not being cruel, just being true
Truth
Most truths are beliefs, opinions not fact
They can change as we criticise and debate
And sometimes fail to communicate
For we ourselves do deliberate
How honest we are being to ourselves.
How true is this physical, emotional manifestation and
Representation of us
Identity
Are we in crisis here?
Height weight gender and sex
Loud personalities and nervous wrecks
Identities shape how we behave
But that only works if others understand
And take note of what you wrote on your message
Your message which you're trying to tell
but nobody's listening, because Twitter doesn't count.
The Media
A pack of lies
Easy to despise
But hard to ignore
And not hear the roar
Of journalists speculating
Constantly communicating
Opinions on politics, the economy, and football score.
What's it all for?
To keep us informed?
Is that what we need?
We need all the facts.
While we feed off the creed of more and more greed
(With complimentary snacks)
You know they say the Victorians had issues of morality
But compare that to us, 'cause we have no neutrality
I say that we need to comprehend if the people have the power
Are the young respected?
Are the old protected?
Can we have effective governance with an ill-informed electorate?
We waste our time if we spend every hour
Being manipulated by the media when we have the power
To think for ourselves and decide what we believe
Then discuss and change our minds but not our qualities
Because the risk of today, this year and century
Is the world's getting smaller and we are meant to be
Independently minded and socially conscious
Well let's hope so because the future's on us
The Young
Babies born today will go to uni when we're going grey (or bald)
We exist forever in a cycle of generations
but don't we have a duty to make recommendations?
To the people after us, to protect our planet
So while those around you run like headless chickens
To where they think they might perhaps possibly be considering going next
Stop. Take a moment and go over who you are
What you stand for, what you believe in,
What you care about and what you don't
Civilisation needs grounding: not sending to bed
Just reminding of why you think we're here
And remember when doing this, to always be clear
Always try to be honest, be yourself, be you
Not being cool, not being cruel, just being true
This planet needs you
Of that I am sure
Each and every one of us must endure
And fight and survive and thrive to be
Something of significance that leaves a legacy
And that doesn't mean you have to be impressive
Just something that can be followed, just provide what you can give
To us, this society, this world, this Earth
So the next generation can be happier from Birth.
Thank you for your time, I'm sorry it's been long.
Just remember, stay honest, stay truthful, stay strong.
