If he didn't come back to gloat back then, not very well I'd guess.

lol! I have my interview today. If I don't come back to gloat......

Is this for full time or internship? I can't believe they are still interviewing! I had my summer internship AC around 8th jan, then final round panel about 20th of jan. They are doing it so late!

I just had a telephone interview with ICAP - the questions were very similar to those mentioned above - why ICAP, what is ICAP's share price, what is inter dealer broking, how does it differ from investment banking (stupid question as its totally different), who else have you applied to, who are ICAP's competitors, why are you suited to broking and describe a situation where you have set a business initiative to make money. it lasted in total about 9 minutes which I was and am quite concerned about!

how much do they pay grads?

£36k + £5k sign on + bonuses when you make 3 x salary in brokerage fees.

dont worry about it. as it was supposed to be lasting for 10-20mins. that's what their HR informed in the email reply to me.

did you apply for Broker position?

I applied for Acc/Fin. wonder if the Qs will be rather similar.

Good luck with your result

Hi there all,

this information is very useful. I know it's a bit late but can anyone give me advice on the assesment centre

Reply 28

When's your Assessment center? Ive got one for the 22nd.

Reply 29

I've got one as well on the 29th

Reply 30

I've got mine on 24th...Voice broking grad role. Would appreciate any info anyone has who takes / has taken the AC before me. My email mentioned a numerical test, group exercise and panel interview. No mention of trading simulator or verbal reasoning, does anyone know if these will be included in the AC?

Cheers.

Reply 31

I've got mine on 2nd. Risk.

Reply 32

Has anyone had any ACs at ICAP yet? If yes, please spread the word.

Reply 33

Had mine yesterday. Day consists of:

1) Trading game
2) Maths test
3) Group game
4) Panel interview

It's nice to see ICAP too...I really really want to work there after seeing it, but don't think i'll progress to the next stage!

Reply 34

Reply 35

Is anyone in for final interview stage in Risk Area?

I had an ICAP interview the other day and am through to the AC, they're very quick to reply! To be honest the interview was unlike any other I've had, for a start it was actually ICAP HR on the phone not some call centre, and the girl I spoke to would ask questions related to what I'd just said etc... it was actually like a proper conversation instead of just reading questions off a list in front of her! Obviously the discussion was steered towards certain topics but I thought I actually got something out of it and that they were genuinely interested in me. From what I can remember this is the gist of what I got asked.

Why ICAP?
Why Broking?
What exactly is ID broking and how does it differ to trading, what qualities/skills do you think make a successful broker?
How do you handle clients/what do you think this side of the role requires - specifically meeting them after work etc..?
Where else have you applied?
How is the market and specifically how is ICAP and other IDB's doing?
What do you think the future holds/future challenges for IDB's?
Tell me about a time you've made money (can be for yourself or for a company - thought this was tough, I mentioned something I working last summer that saved money for the business I was with)
Something about a difficult situation or persuading someone, can't remember exactly.

I got the impression they're not looking for perfect answers, more whether or not you can hold yourself in a phone conversation, obviously key to broking. I build up quite a good rapport with my interviewer talked about going to the pub etc... even thought she might have thought this was a good thing (shows I'm sociable)!!!

Any more q's PM me.

really great post, thanks a lot. i hadnt really looked into ID broking but i just recently read up about it and it sounds great! I'm applying for Sales at IBs but voice broking also seems very appealing - esp without the stress of taking risky positions! haha. I'm about to send off an app so I hope I haven't missed too many boats. I'm glad to hear that its more of a conversation, the questions do seem more geared to see what you're like as a person, which as you say is important in broking. good luck  did you get an AC?

oh i just realised how old this thread is. none the less it helped

About two years too late, but I had my tel interview with ICAP the other day and here's how it went to the best of my memory...

Why ICAP?
Why do you want to be a broker?
What's the price of oil today?
What happens to the interest rate when the price of bonds go up?
What's 7% of 7?
What's 3/8 in decimals?
Tell me about a time where you had a difficult situation and you had to persuade someone, how did you ensure you had a successful outcome?
Tell me about an achievement that you are particularly proud of?

That was pretty much it. I thought I smacked the interview up. but haha they rejected me this morning. Within 24 hours.

I ****ed up the easiest question, brain fart - got 3/8 wrong!!! wtf
Also in retrospect, given that it was my first interview, I was a bit like a pitbull just ready to pounce straight after she's done with the question, I wasn't smooth like I normally am on the phone. Absolutely gutted about it, but **** it... lesson learned.

Hey thanks a lot, that's really useful. Are you applying for Broking in London?
Btw, what did you answer for the one about the interest rates and price of bonds?
