    Hi all!

Ok, so I’m a 3rd year student nurse and just found out I’m pregnant! Yay!

I’m just a little unsure of when to notify the university of this? I’m only 5 weeks at the moment and ordinarily I’d be in no rush to discuss it (although I am delighted and can’t wait to sing it from the rooftops!) so early on.

My concern is that obviously they’re going to want to do risk assessments for placement which is due to start in January (I’ll be 12-14 weeks when the placement starts) but I’ve been told that at the moment the university is changing who handles occupational health and as such there are delays in getting appointments with them.

Pre-empting this delay, I’m curious whether to notify the university now so as to avoid delays later on and possibly a block on starting placement as the necessary risk assessments haven’t been done?

So, just looking for a little advice really fellow student nurses? Tell them now or keep “mum” for a little longer?

    Thank you!!

Hello and congratulations! We would recommend getting in touch sooner rather than later so that we can organise the risk assessments and help you plan. Also, risk assessments are conducted by lecturers and you would only need to be seen by OH if there was an issue and we would make sure that that didn't delay your placements.

    We hope this helps
