Ugly friend - I always get asked out as a joke Watch

I often get asked out as a joke by popular people and I find it's really affecting me and the way I interact with people.
I can't talk to them without them laughing at me if we're working on a group projwct and I'm self conscious about taking leadership roles etc. I know I'm ugly and I came to terms with it but I hate the way they all laugh and look down on me purely because I'm not pretty. It also makes me blush and act so awkwardly because I have no idea how to respond.
Even my friends and family acknowledge I'm not pretty so this isn't just a lack of self esteem etc. My friends don't help me out as I'm made fun of and I just don't know how to react or what to say. One of my 'friends' even comments on how I look 'scary' and she doesn't know how i can look in the mirror (I think she thinks I take it as a joke). I think I'm just becoming reluctant to talk to guys or new people.
Basically it would be great if you could tell me how to react and just how to be happy lol

Btw I had no clue what forum to put this in

I know that it's difficult when you're less attractive than other people, and it really makes you feel self conscious, not just for relationships but for everyday situations, even if you've come to terms with it you can't help but feel sad about it.

I think #1 is to not let yourself get walked over. If your family or your friends or people you don't know are talking about it, then try changing the subject or insist that you focus on whatever is going on or just laugh it off and move on. If for people you know like your friend or family it persists, then you need to have a serious talk with them and ask them why they are bringing it up.

Don't be afraid of pushing yourself out of your comfort zone - it's how you grow. So fake confidence if you need to and don't let anything hold you back.

And find ways to maximise your attractiveness. Some things you can't change, but things like hairstyle, clothes etc you can. I'm always impressed by people who wear different cool t-shirts everyday and I've started my own collection (it's a bit of an expensive habit st times :hide:) and although I struggle for motivation at times, I am working on making my terrible personality okay-ish, and attempting to be more interested in others as well as interesting. It sounds strange but I think being unattractive and unpopular and being bullied throughout childhood takes that toll on you.
