    I have to do a presentation on the importance of science/biology in the national curriculum, and have a visual aid like an object to engage the audience.
    What could it be ? My mind has gone blank.

    Spoon, cigarette lighter, hypodermic syringe and a tourniquet.

    Then use the "Ceci, n'est pas une pipe" analogy to explain why rigorous scientific method must be used in order to avoid first assumption disaster.

    Gather up objects people use every day that rely on scientific discoveries that are either recent or part of the syllabus you're doing. For example, mobile phones rely on electromagnetic radiation.
