Like if you got really good grades, would some unis consider paying tuition fees for you?

Unlikely. You can apply for scholarships; but they won't cover the full fees.

It varies by uni. The information is on each universities website.

The highest merit award is about £2k (e.g. Surrey https://www.surrey.ac.uk/scholarship...hip-2018-entry ).

There are some joint apprenticeship - university courses where you do an apprenticeship whilst studying at University at the same time where the company you are doing an apprenticeship with pays for your tuition fees. This is not available for all courses so you would need to do some research.

    Hope this helped

Good shout, also known as Degree Apprenticeships.
e.g. as offered by JaguarLandRover and Dyson.
    http://www.jaguarlandrovercareers.co...t/apprentices/
    https://www.dysoninstitute.com

Both are extremely competitive though... but you earn proper money while studying and pay no tuition fees.

Not just for engineering - also law (not sure if you actually study at a university for this but you do become a qualified solicitor).

Cheaper than the UK, but not cheap by European standards. Why pay £2,000 in fees when it's free over the border?
