    Hi,
I am doing a masters and want to become a Professor. I was wanting to know what type of prior experience is needed for such a job. I am doing a masters over 2 years and want to do something which will assist the development of my public speaking, writing and research skills. I am hoping to get a distinction so I can do a PhD but want to start the work experience early. Is there any point of trying to get into freelance journalism? Are there any other fields which are suitable?

I dont know about the arts side but for science and engineering it is

    1. phd
    2. 1+ post docs (number will depend on how good you are and how much funding there is in your field + your flexibility)
    4. get a lecturer post at a uni
    5. Keep getting promoted until you reach professor level
