AQA Biopsychology: Action potentials and nerve impulses

I'm revising biopsychology, and I can't understand the difference between an action potential and a nerve impulse. Are they the same thing or is the nerve impulse created by the action potential? If so, what creates the action potential?
I'm on AQA, any help would be appreciated.
