    Interesting point raised here. I mostly agree with one of the people that said if a woman was picked just to fill the quota as the guys happened to be better that year it would be a lot of pressure in particular on her if the team was to lose.

    one solution would be for the Challenge to split into a male version and a female version; this would be similar to the Maths Olympiad where there are now two versions.
    there could also be a third version for non-binary contestants.

    I was on my university's UC team. When we did the audition / application, we came (just) inside the top20 that would normally be televised, but because we were an all-male team we weren't invited to take part.

    Having a female on the team is useful if you actually want to get on TV.
