When I was feeling lonely and thought that I had no friends recently I reached out to people who I knew from my last school. One got back and said something like

I am your friend and will always be here if you need a chat

Do you think that this person really is my friend? What do you think they meant by what they said?

What is the meaning of a friend? I always think that I have no friends, however, this person said to me that they are my friend.

    They also said something like:

Even though we don't speak often you have always been a friend of mine.

Is that possible? Can someone still consider you as a friend even though they don't speak to you very often?

What is a friend and do you think that this person is my friend?

I think this means they're your friend; they've said it themselves.

Even though we don't speak often you have always been a friend of mine.

    Less communication =/= no friendship

If they say they're your friend then so be it. I think the definition of friend is different for everyone, you need to define what a friend means to you and then determine whether this person fits your criteria.

I am just so naturally shy that I don't talk to people much at all. Therefore when I have been on my own for so long at points I can just feel so low and think that I have no friends as no one speaks to me.
