About Original Documents

I have to send my original passport to Student Finance England, but I need to update it in Spain in a month and I'll need the original then. Can I send a certified copy instead?

We can only accept certified copies of ID for undergraduate EU students applying for Tuition Fees only. If you are applying for Maintenance Loan (ML) funding we would require original ID either a valid original passport or EU National Identity card.

We are currently taking 7 working days to process EU ID from the date of receipt and it is usually returned to you within 10 working days via Special Delivery which is usually delivered the next working day. Even though it is usually returned within those timescales we advise you not to send us original ID if travelling within 4 weeks as we cannot guarantee it would be returned before you are due to travel.

You would then need to send it in to us as soon as you return to the UK.
