17 for 6 MONTHS until 18

So all my university choices start September 2018, and at that point in time I will be 17 years old. I'll point out the obvious as to why I am making the point: I love socialising, and more specifically, drinking to socialise and have a good time. I'm not a raging alcoholic by any means but I understand that university has a drinking and clubbing culture and that interests me as I like to have a good time. Back to the point, I'll be 17 for 6 months. This includes freshers' week(s) and 5 months after that. My query is does anyone know what it's like to live their first year as a 17 year old and how to cope with socialising when people are out?

Well, I am gonna be the EXACT same age when I start uni. I personally think that if you could wait 17 years and 6 months to get into uni then you can definitely wait another 6 months before you have "FUN". I suppose you should be more worried about your A-Levels right now!

Well I'm from Scotland so we have what you would call a 'foundation' year I suppose? I already have an offer for Glasgow which is reassuring.

Be assured that there's much more to university life, Freshers' week and socialising than drinking. It can be a big part of some people's social lives, but there is much more to get involved with too.

Students' Unions usually provide you with lots of entertainment in Fresher's week, like fairs, sometimes gigs, talks or comedy, food etc.. There are societies which can be a great source of socialising, where you'll meet people who share the same interests as you so that you can make friends, hang out and do activities related to the society and outside of it! There are also sports teams if you're into sports, and there will be plenty to do and explore if you are going to move to a new city.

If it's a foundation year you're doing, then you know you'll have another Fresher's week coming up in your first year next year, so maybe save up some energy and excitement for that when you can go out and party! But don't think that your social life will be nil if you don't do it now. A lot of university students don't drink out of choice, and I believe that a lot of unis are embracing non-drinking socials and more daytime activities to keep students entertained.

There will be plenty for you to do.

Hope this helps
