Hi all,
Desperately in need of some insight here.
I applied to MSc Finance at WBS and they have finally gotten back to me saying that i have been successful up to the final stages. But before they make their final decision, the admissions panel due to my academic background in economics is asking me if i want to consider MSc in Economics and Finance.
Does this mean that i have been unsuccessful in MSc FInance but most likely make it to the MSc economics and Finance? Or are they just offering me a choice to change my track?

Help anyone? i am supposed to email them back with my preference. thanks soo much
btw bonjour2, i am also from SIngapore, an NUS undergrad in economics.

My guess is that WBS just think it possible that E+F a better fit for you.
e.g. straight Finance does start with basic econometrics
e.g. T-tests.

Suggest you email back not with an answer but with questions!

:suitc: Hello
thanks for the reply!
sadly i had already emailed them with a reply before i saw your post.

but in a way since finance is my first choice due to the options of modules, i guess i shall stick to that.

thanks again!

As you will be paying 16k in fees and course not start for 8 months yet if you are interested in the E+F option, don't let a silly thing like you already having emailed them back stop you asking for more info on the E+F course.

haha so everyone is in a dilemma between choosing MSc Finance, MSc Finance and Econs , MSc Econs and Int Fin Econs...:s-smilie:

Reply 44

Dilemma is choice between 2 options.
So if there are 4 options maybe it should be quadlemma instead

Reply 45

thanks for that correction...so I am in a dilemma between choosing either MSc F + E or MSc E + Int F:biggrin:

You are not planning to work for at least a year upon graduation ? I believe that you will not face much difficulties in your job search given the fact that you are going to graduate from a local university.

Hi Paulwhy , how are the school fees payment structure like for Warwick University ? Are students expected to pay the one lump sum at the start of the academic year? Or students are allowed to pay the fees progressively per semester? I can't seem to find any information regarding fees payment on the website.

Hey bonjour2. Nope i want to finish studying first cos i know that if i start working i wont want to leave...

and anyways the job market sucks at the moment. i am however heading to do an internship during that 5 month break (well 3 month internship and then a trip to the US to visit my bro before going to the UK)
bonjour: My advice to you is to choose whch interests you more, which one has more emphasis on what you want to do. hope that helps. That's wat i did. just out of curiosity why did you choose to do distance learning? as you said, singapore has a long way to go before they truly appreciate distance learning.

and as paul said yup i guess it wont be a dilemma lol!
As to Paulwhy, i am all prepared to reapply for the E+F and i have done my research. just didnt want to send them multiple applications. If i dont get my finance then i will reapply for the other course. i should know their decision pretty soon!

Exactly!
And I still think you should find out why they think it possible you might benefit more from E+F than straight Finance.

I looked through the E+F online but i made my choice for finance only after realising that i would rather learn more about finance and their modules than repeating some of the modules they are teaching for economics. THe NUS econs degree with hons is a 4 year drgee and often we cover masters material as the programme is rather intensive. I am currently taking Masters level courses too. It would be a repetition.

Gotta go for something that i personally feel is what i want

I didnt mean as in meeting in class but since you have been such a help, was just suggesting to meet for a coffee or something when everyone else on this forum makes it there!
then it would be cool!

thanks for all your help though!

As for the question on did they confirm the fees? No they just said its highly likely to be in the range of 16950.

Yea well done . I am currently waiting for a reply from 3 other schools ; LSE , Cambridge , EDHEC . So we might /might not meet at WBS depending on the outcomes .

I unlike you, have not looked at the modules. But Finance does re-teach Econometrics from scratch. e.g. T-tests. Hence I would have thought that E+F would be a better choice for someone who did straight econ at undergrad.

Reply 57

Actually the E+F does too. Their econometrics core module is for those with no prior knowledge of metrics. and here, man we had to do 4 levels of them just to graduate!
