Area of a triangle

Now, I know this can be expressed as follows:

1/2absinC 1/2 ab sin C

What I would like to know is:

given three sides a, b, c, and the angles A, B, C, does this only work when using the two sides that the angle is NOT opposite? E.g. C is not opposite sides a or b. If I were to use angle B, for instance, and still used sides a and b in the calculation instead of a and c, would this still work for calculating the area?

I imagine this only works when using the angle that is NOT opposite the sides used, but am just asking to confirm this.
yes, the angle must be formed by the two sides used in the calculation.
