Macquarie Capital First Round Interview

I have just recieved the email today and asked me to attend an interview next Tues.

In the morning there will be a 45 mins interview and they said they would ask some of the interview takers to sit a 3 hours psychometrics test in the afternoon.

I would like to know what kind of question would Macquarie people ask.
This will be my first face-to-face interview. I am happy to know how to well prepared for it from anyone who has past experience.

Thanks in advance!

Well had a friend who applied for graduate scheme at Macquarie, first round was just Competency based questions with a HR person. Questions like Why Macquarie, Why your division and then moving on to competency based questions like examples of teamwork. He also said that he had to talk go over his CV, previous experiences. It was more conversational then those phone interviews. Altho he didnt mention any psychometric testing! On the email does it mention whether its going to be competency based?

So Jacky when did you apply and what for? I'm assuming your applying for Summer Internship? Macquarie did say they dnt review applications till deadline, and im sure the deadline is still a few days away! So I'm assuming you applied early on, or you have a great application there!

All the best!

I have applied for summer internship of investment banking group at the beginning of December, I don't know if my application made quite early.
In the email, it said there will be a psychometric test in the afternoon, they will ask some of the interviewees to take it, so i guess they probably choose people who perform well in their morning interviews...
and the email said the interviewers whill be one representative from its HR or business. It didn't mention what kind of questions I will be asked, but i guess most of them will be competency based.

how did the interviews go guys? did you guys get ac or not?

I think my interview went well....however, the woman who interviewed me said I cannot take an AC that afternoon......that means....i think a polite way to reject me anyway.....felt so pissed off that day....coz i spent money and skipped several lectures just for a 20min interview...and I probably failed.....
The interview questions are similar to other IB's questions. Why your uni? Why your subject? Why investment banking? Why Macquarie? and she asked me about my predicted degree also my school life in A-level! I spend a lot of time to talk about my high school life......and also some behavioural questions, so prepare several examples about yourself~

dont know if this is a stupid question but you keep referring to 'AC'. what is it firstly and do you have to do it straight after your first interview to get through to the final round?
AC stands for Assessment Centre. It is usually what you're invited to if you pass the 1st round interview. It can consist of further, more technical interviews [possibly with VPs, EDs or MDs], numerical/verbal tests, a group exercise, a case study and a presentation.

AC - Air Conditioned room wher you get interviewed in a more comfortable environment.

Oh ok thats what AC means. Not quite familiar with the short terms yet lol. Anyway I got called for a 2nd interview the other day. Anyone know if this is the final stage or will there be something after. And should I expect pretty much the same kind of questions as my first interview or will it be much more technical?
Thanks

In Australia, there are usually 3 rounds of interviews iirc. An acquaintance once found a common interest with the MD and just talked about that for a while. I think it really depends who you get.
Just wanted more information regarding the Macquarie AC! I know it includes Verbal, Numerical, Logic and Psychometric and i believe all of them are SHL ones.

Just wanted to know how many questions of each are there and how long do you have to do them?

e.g is the numerical the 20 questions in 20 mins one?

Thank you in advance!

ya numerical is exactly like the shl ones you do with other firms. and verbal and logic are very similar. and if you are applying to macquarie capital, you also have to do what they call a sales test or something like that which was the longest thing i have ever done. it basically is about 100 questions or so about your personality as a salesman.no right or wrong answer, just say what you see yourself as (most and least). did not see much point to it but had to be done.
good luck
Cool.. so just numerical, logic, verbal and a sales test.. no psychometric? (yeah im going for macquarie capital)

after the AC did they say how long they would take in getting back to you?

Appreciate your reply..
