I'm a year 12 student and I'm currently looking for a placement for a week of work experience in the summer. I have been trying to find work experience as it would be the most relevant to what I want to do in Uni (most likely biological sciences/microbiology) however being 17 and all I'm really struggling to find lab work experience.
I also LOVE marine animals so I was thinking of doing my work experience at SeaLife- any biology experience is better than none! But I'm worried that it won't end up being relevant at all and will be a waste of time. Do you think it is worth applying for?

There's no harm in contacting a university and asking if you can shadow a student in the lab? Email a lecturer who's research catches your eye and see from there. When I was on my studentship summer placement there was a year 11 student who I was supervising in the lab (alongside the PhD student). at least then you have a clearer idea of university research and experimental methods used
