I would say nottingham is good 4 the rock / metal scene, most of the good bands play there (rock city, nott arena) those sort of places!! I would definately advise it!

Manchesters pretty good! Most bands play in Manchester.

I second Manchester, has one of the best rock/indie scenes anywhere outside London who will obviously have the best them being the capital and all...

Hmm, are you sure about that? I reckon Manchester is probably comparable.

No. Too much non-rock stuff around.

In Manchester. At least, when I last looked. There's not enough rock 'places' nationally anyway. Full of townie rubbish

That's another thing. When my friends speak of certain rock clubs and nightclubs I've never heard of them, even though I visit websites quite regularly to find the bloddy places! That's in London by the way.

Okey poke:

Aloud.com listed gigs:

London: 750
Manchester: 261
Birmingham: 164
Glasgow:104
Edinburgh: 25

Though to be fair to the towns which aren't London,

most of the gigs are like

BANDNAME
london
london
manchester
birmingham

etc, and having the same gig twice is no indicator of a better scene. Also, big name bands playing isn't an indicator of a big scene either, Manchester for example has the jilly's rockworld allnighter, 4 big floors of hardcore all night, several nights a week. This is probably an unrivalled thing, but doesn't appear on aloud.com
Not heard of the Underworld in London?

Not quite as big, not quite as long, and appear on ticket sites, therefore they don't count =P

But there are plenty of sites in London that will count

Thing is the start of the thread didn't really only concern with nightclubs etc so presumably markets and that in Camden will also apply
