Having to share a room at Uni..

It seems like I've been getting more than my fair share of bad luck lately.. to top things I recieved by accomodation allocation this morning- I'm in a double (shared) room.

My main concern is that I won't have any privacy (which I think will be pretty important to me) especially since I've been told the first few weeks of University are going to be overwhelming- and home is too far to visit regularly.

So to the people who have already gone to Uni- is sharing really that bad?

It wasn't awful, but I wouldn't want to repeat the experience. Make sure that if something annoys you you sort it out straight away or there can be problems.

As soon as you get to halls if not sooner, put your name down for the next availaible single room - you'll be out of your double by Xmas at the very latest.

I'm planning to..

.. the problem is I would be taken out of my Halls if I do (well the building.. maybe not the halls) so that would mean having to settle in.. again.. but I guess that's a small price to pay if I really don't get on with the person I'm sharing with.

I guess I should count myself lucky I wasn't put in a "triple" room.

Well, don't go into it thinking it's gonna be awful....you never know. I'm still good friends with a room mate twenty years on.

i recieved the same news this morning, i was ecstatic about the halls i've been allocated to, but i'm a bit worried in case the person i'm having to share with is either sum geeky slob, or just sum annoying twat, which wouldn't like, although i'm trying to look at the positive factors, because i'm sharing the rent is like 20 pounds cheaper, thats an extra 20 pound a week to spend on going out:smile:, which uni are u going?

Leicester.. but I phoned up and they've transferred me to a single because someone cancelled last minute. Money is definatley a huge bonus with sharing. What Uni are you going to?

lucky you, i'm going leeds uni, absolutely can't wait, well... besides the thought of sharing with a complete stranger who for all i know culd be a deranged seriel killer, or even worse a geek:smile:, also with me sharing, with a stranger how i am supposed to trust him not to steal my stuff, i'm moving in early next saturday morning, and whos to say him and his deranged family aren't going to walk in the room and think that all this stuff is a present from the uni to them and steal everything, whilst i'm at lunch saying my final goodbyes to my parents.

You usually have to fill in a 'personality form' when applying for uni accomm - they use it to try to put like minded people together. It's not fool safe, but better than a totally random system!

well i suppose thats slightly reassuring, the only other issue is about hving mates stay round, and more importantly having girls around, whether there girlfriends or one night stands, if it was somebody who is like me and we both brought girls back, dont u think it would be a bit awkward,

I wrote down on my form I actually prefferred to share, at my uni (durham) it doesnt affect the price, but it does mean u get a better room and practically everyone does in my college in 1st year...and u may get to live in the castle. Unfortuanately there wasnt a proper questionarre for room mates so i really could end up with anyone, or anything!

If you're expecting uni to be a total shagfest, then you may be dissapointed! Also, the girls that put out easily probably aren't the kind you want to be dipping your wick with!

Most peeps have some kind of 'rota', and crashing on a friends floor is always an option if your roomie is 'getting jiggy'.
