Hey there!

Nice to hear from others who are going to Butlers Wharf! Hehe, you sound a bit dissapointed: do not worry:smile: I forgot to tell you that Butlers Wharf is generally considered a good hall and a nice place to live:smile: I chose for Butlers Wharf for its mainly post-graduate status, and the fact that it has a fully equiped kitchen etc (I would not be able to stand one more day of prefab food from a Dining Hall). Besides, the structure of the flats is that six rooms share a common area and a kitchen, this plus the common room, gives one enough space I think:smile: By the way, the room sizes vary between 12 and 20 M2, I seriously doubt whether it is possible to get much larger rooms in the same proximity.

hey. i'm living in Butler's Wharf too. I'm doing the General Course study abroad program. I'm in the Industrial Relations Department. I'm an economics major/business minor from Northwestern University. I'm arriving in London on the 27th, from New York. The rooms do look tiny - but I am happy that we get to cook for ourself. It wasn't one of my first choices, since it's mainly post grads, but I'm sure it'll be fun. See you in a couple of weeks I guess

Hey Cindy,

Nice to hear from you! We've got to continue this thread, nice to hear from others who are actually going to the same place! Hehe, I sure feel sorry for posting this pic of this room hahahaha, now I'm trying to sooth the image it created by you all:smile: Would it help if I said that the guy from which I got the pic told me me it really was one of the smaller rooms? Hahaha, but hey, be happy that you actually got a place in central London!! It is the second most expensive city in the world to live (one is Tokyo).....I've been there many times, and the prices for appartements etc.........pfff, dream on:wink: If you'd have to find your own residence it would have been way out of central london....Butlers Wharf really is in a cool place of London (the mediaeval centre of London to be correct), and now I stop before I going to sound like a tourguide:wink: Hope to see you all there!!

ciao from amsterdam

I am sure it will be alright. I was initially told I got a place in international hall, I guess I just got used to the fact that I would be able to walk to the school. I am also not much of a cook but I guess I'll learn. It should be good. I am interested in meeting everyone.

Do you have any more pics of the place?

I am very sorry, but the room in the picture is not one of the smallest, but the standar rule in the hall (99%)

Have you stayed at Butler's.? Do you have more pics. It would be great to hear from someone who has stayed there for a year.

I have good and bad news. You know the bad ones, that the room in the picture is the standar room.

Here are the good ones .... it is not so bad. The room is bigger because the picture was taken from the middle, not from the door. And although it is not BIG, is not small.

hey, how do you all recommend getting to Butler's Wharf from Heathrow. I was told to take the Heathrow Express to Paddington station, which costs 13 pounds. Do you just take a cab from there? I need to easiest/cheapest way to get there with all of my luggage. Thanks
-Cindy
I'm not a native London-ite but from my experience, you could either take the Tube (inexpensive but you lug your bags) or hire a car (no trouble with bags, but costs a bit).

Easiest route from Heathrow is Piccadilly to Earl's Court or South Kensington, where you can get on circle or district eastbound to tower hill, by butler's wharf. I know there is some construction going on at the moment, and I thought maybe it was in South Kensington, though it depends when you're riding.

The Heathrow Express seems like a waste, b/c you still have to get from pad station to Tower Hill.

There is a map and other information online somewhere, just google london underground.

Hi Cindy,

The best thing that you can do is use the tube, at least it is what I do always. It is the cheaper way. The only negative thing is that sometimes there are not lifts in the tube and you have to climb the stairs with all your stuff.
Reply 14
Thanks. What are the tube stops/lines? I've never been to London so I am clueless about all of this stuff.

butler's wharf is quite nice and cosy. most of it will depend on whether or not you get along with your flatmates to be honest.
the neigbourhood is really nice, tower bridge esp. at night is really pictoresque and you can bike to the LSE in 15 minutes tops or take the RV1 bus which stops 2 mins away from butler's wharf.

Here is a map with the tube.

You arrive to Heathrow (left of the map) and have to go to either London Bridge (grey and black lines) or Tower Hill (Green and yellow lines). In my case I always go to London Bridge. From heathrow I change the blue line in Green park and take the grey line to London Bridge. From there you can walk to the residence, here you have a map of the zone.

From the only tube station that appears in the map you have to go to Gainsford Street in the right past tower road bridge. You can walk through the riverpath, it is quite nice.

Hi, guys! I'll be arriving in Butlers Wharf 02/10 - a bit late 'coz I grabbed up last-minute-accomm-offers yesterday! I'm Fem, (age is secret), MSc Mngt&Reglt of Risk, China. Butler's Wharf, from what I hear, is one of the best LSE residence. A friend from King's (he's local) actually described our Hall as the thing King's students jealous most about LSE, 'coz the Hall is v nice itself, plus it is in one of the most beautiful neighbourhood in London - right next to the Tower Bridge, surrounded by little valleys with nice Continential restaurants. And a walk in the evening in our area will be as romantic as it can get...(I do hope everything is as nice as his blah...blah...blah...). And the final suggestion from him was - if I ever do postgrads in LSE, I should go for Butlers Wharf. The only thing I'm worrying about is where we can go for groceries - hoping we don't need to ride the bus to Surrey Quay's Shopping Centre's Tesco to do it!
I do wish to make lots of friends, using my speciality that I did my under in LSE so perhaps I can be of some help to u new guys. If u see a red-haired small Chinese girl around with an inverted-melon-shape hairstyle, just call me and stop me even if I look shy & unapproachable. Look disguses, so please believe I'm friendly  .
Btw, I'm Vivian.

hi everyone

hi everyone. I am so glad this thread has become so succesfull. Anyway What is the deal with the T.V downstairs, I reckon we must really push to get sky it is only 20 pounds per month divided by 220! It is ridiculous that we only have four channels.

I agree with you, however we are 300 not 220 so it would be cheaper. On the other hand (there is always another hand) it is not 20 pounds. They tried to hire Sky last year, however they had to pay a different fee for communal places that is really expensive.
