lol are you mad!? they're like 500 quid per subject

Reply 2

yeah.
the ORC are like £500.
its mental.
you'd be more productive if you spent 7 hours revising at home because

a) you save £500
b) you wont have the need to go party like crazy in Oxford and forget everything you did all day (+ spend a good £30)

I would strongly reccommend against these as well.
some students last year in my school did it for physics. they wre told to concentrate on a certain topic cos they were told it would come in the exam.
never came.

agreed, you're much much much better off being strict with yourself and doing revision at home, i know it's hard lol. I find it's good to revise with friends or even A-levellers if you have them, particularly in maths! It's also worthwhile investing in Oxford University Press IB Revision Guides!

Reply 4

agreed.
Oxford study guides are extremely helpful

Reply 5

Ok, I'll get the study guides. But I don't really care about the money (parents are paying anyways and dad makes a bundle), does everyone agree that you are better off studying on your own than with a teacher at a course?

Reply 6

What subjects do you want them for? Check their website as well.

Have any of the people in this thread actually BEEN to an Oxford study session? I don't think you can automatically assume that it's no better than sitting at home studying; it could be worthwhile for all we know :s-smilie:.

I went to OSC (Oxford Study Course), pre-IB and mid-IB, some of the pre-ib ones helped...some was abit repetitive with MYP. I only did the mid-ib economics course. I think it helps in terms of question answering techniques. It's something beyond my notes (which i'll be looking at when i revise). Is it worth the money? well..depends how much you need it. If it will save you/help you achieve your conditional offer, then do it.

I need to make my conditional offer (only got one in the UK, will go to Holland otherwise), for which I need a 7 in both maths and physics HL. so I'd want to go to one where they are good with those subjects.

Thanks for replying everyone, but any more replies are always welcome

A guy at my school went to OSC to boost his French B SL up from a 5. He ended up with a 5. But I don't know much about the Maths and Physics ones. One thing to bear in mind is that some of the economics teachers from my school taught there last year, so the teachers there won't be any better than the ones at your school probably. The only thing it would give you is more contact time with a teacher. If you feel that would help then go for it!

Reply 11

indeed.
my maths and english teachers are going to do OSC this year, they did it last year also.
so bear in mind that they wont be any different to your teachers in any case...

Reply 12

Ok, thanks. it seems like I better stay studying at home, as there is plenty of contact time at my school.

Reply 13

Any1 know what courses there are other than OSC?

Reply 14

I attended Revision Courses Europe in stockholm 2006. I saw that they also give courses at LSE this spring. I remember that they charged like half compared to OSC and the teachers were very good. their teachers are former ib students with excellent grades. my teacher was a 44 IB student with 3 years of university experience within economics.
