I'm having trouble trying to reference a source for an essay. I'm writing about Shakespeare's Hamlet, but the book I'm using is not originally by Shakespeare, of course. It is edited by John Hampstead. How, then, do I convey this in the Harvard Referencing Style? "Shakespeare, W. Hampstead, J. (eds.) 1938. Shakespeare's Hamlet Prince of Denmark. London: Thomas Nelson & Sons, Ltd."? I just don't know, and I don't want my incorrect referencing to get me done for plagiarism...

The method I use is:-

Name Initial., Initial., (date) “Title of Book“ publisher: where published

E.g
Duffy C., A., (1993) “Mean Time” Anvil Press Poetry: London

When I want to refer to the book in an essay I simply copy:-
Duffy C., A., (1993: 21) which names the book I am referencing and its page.I.e.page 21 of the book “Mean Time”

What about when the text is written by one person (e.g. William Shakespeare) but edited by another person (e.g. John Hampstead)? How would you refer to such a text in the essay? "(Shakespeare, (date), (page number))"? "Shakespeare, cited in Hampstead, (date), (page number))"? "(Hampstead, (date), (page number))"?

I normally do the following:

Adams R., (Editor) (1994) “Title” Publisher: City

And if referring to a particular text within the book then I do

Simth R., J., (year) “Title” in Adams R., (Editor) (1994) “Title” Publisher: City

If an editor of a writer's text then I do

Adams R., Editor Duffy C., A., (year) “Title - say selected poems” Publisher: City
