Was it a date? I'm confused

For around 6 months now myself and a coworker have been talking to each other on off. We chat on social media mainly and in person we see each other once a week/once every two weeks to talk face to face.

Over a conversation on social media we planned to meet up outside of work by going to a local fair. We still don't know each other very well on a personal level (as I say we see each every week on the off chance, but talk mainly in DM's).

The only problem was when we finally met up I couldn't help feeling awkward. I was a little bit confused about the vibe we had while hanging out. It felt awfully strange to me :s-smilie:

The thing is...I thought we were simply going to the fair to "hang out". Ive wanted to meet up for a while, as I thought it would give us a chance to get to know each other better as friends.

For one, when we were at the fair she insisted on paying for all the rides we went on and even bought me food. I suggested to pay but she insisted on paying every time. Even though one could call this simply a nice gesture, my other friends have never insisted on paying for everything for me...we've always just split the cost. This left me feeling like I owed her something and that this person wanted more from me...

During conversation there were a lot of long gazes and stares. She also sat very close to me (particularly on the rides). Over eating she told me that she doesn't socialise with many people outside of work...

At the end of the evening she had to return back to work, so I walked her to the staff entrance. She told me that she didn't want to go and that she wished I could do the shift with her. Before I could say bye she practically rushed off...not even a hug...nothing. Did'nt even say she had a good time?

I returned home just feeling really weird about the whole night. All I can think is that this person thought we were on some kind of 'date' or something. Why else would someone pay for everything and act so unusual if it's strictly platonic (two friends spending time with each other)?

What do you think??? I don't know what to do/say to her next? I like her but don't want to hurt her feelings...

Um it sounded like a meetup :K:
Do you like her? It sounds like you found the whole thing weird, like you didn't want it to happen.
You guys just need to talk, maybe you should plan the next excursion and mention that she shouldn't be paying for everything. It's not fair.
the only way you will know for sure is to talk to her. see where you both are and make sure you are in the same page if/when you meet again
