what is the link between standard deviation and validity of the experiment?

If it's too big your results are of little value. If it causes results to overlap then you can't draw conclusions.

Usually you will plot results with error bars. The true value (as opposed to the measured value) lies somewhere inside the error bar (if you've properly accounted for uncertainty).

If the error bars for two values overlap then you don't know if value A is bigger, the same or smaller than value B so you can't conclude a trend.
