Fashion Design

I want to become a fashion designer. I took Art and Product design for GCSE (fashion or textiles was not available). I'm in Year 11 and i don't know what to do for A-level. I want to end up in London University of Fashion. What is the best way i can get there...what could i do next year or where can i go (for A-levels) I need just a heads up of what might come. Thanks

I presume you mean the London College of Fashion, one of the constituents of the University of Arts London. You may also want to consider Central St. Martins, alma mater of Alexander McQueen, John Galliano (a dubious honour perhaps), Riccardo Tisci (creative director at Givenchy for most of their major lines, including Haute Couture). They're both excellent in the area however (CSM has courses in other areas like Fine Art however, so you may find the student body more varied) and both members of UAL.

To my knowledge the general requirements would be to get minimal attainment in A-levels (passes in 3, I think) with specific background in art (and/or design - usually Art & Design or Fine Art is considered stronger preparation than something more technical like Photography or Textiles, although they certainly would be useful in addition to an Art course). Usually students will also go on to an Art Foundation course after finishing their 6th Form studies and apply while on that course (they usually have specialisation pathways for fashion/textiles as well, although other backgrounds may be suitable) in order to develop a stronger portfolio (and get more formal experience in a design environment).

@PQ and several others have helped put together a thread with information about Art Foundation courses here: https://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/showthread.php?t=5017684

Also as noted in the foundation thread, there are some lower level diplomas that can be started after GCSE, as I'm to understand.
