Firstly I don't think Oxbridge split 2nd class degrees into 2:1s and 2:2s.
Secondly is there a decision being based on the answer? i.e. I would not recommend going to nottingham ahead of Oxbridge just because of a greater chance of getting a 1st.
Thirdly it depends on what you want to do with it. e.g. outside economic circles people know that Oxbridge are great but are less sure about all the rest.
(i.e. value is subjective not objective).
Fourthly in terms of jobs economics is one of the many skills employers will be looking at. So need to think about the other areas.
Finally if I had the choice of the experience of going to oxbridge and getting a 2nd class degree or Nottihngham and getting a 1st I would go to oxbridge.

The amount of people that will rip your heart out for posting this...

This has been discussed many times, and the debate is almost endless. I think the answer is - it depends. Expect a lot of abuse for this though.

Neither is better.

I agree with v2006.

same

I think Oxbridge do split their degrees, and which one is better is entirely subjective and dependent on what field you want to go into.

yeah i thought about applying to nottingham because it would be easier to get a 1st but i asked my dad cos he works in the city and he said that he and all his colleagues would way rather employ someone with a 2:1 from a really good uni than someone with a 1st from a mediocre one

Nottingham is not mediocre, and learn to write.

Wow calm down, I'm sorry if I offended you! Firstly I can write, I was just in a hurry and couldn't be bothered to type properly. And maybe mediocre was the wrong word, Nottingham obviously is a GOOD uni, but it's not one of the best (academic wise, I'm not talking about social life etc.) and what I was trying to say is if you want a job in the City (as in a high-flying one, obviously you could be a secretary or just a normal office job), there's no point in going to Nottingham because they won't look at you. Internships are so competitive nowadays that they'll only look at people from Oxbridge, Imperial or LSE, they won't even look at people from UCL so people from Nottingham don't stand a chance.

But then again, it might be that you don't want to be an investment banker or something similar. Not everyone wants the same thing! But if you do...Oxbridge all the way

Depends what subject you study, Nottingham is one of the best for many subjects.

Yet graduates from Nottingham get employed in the city - how is that?

I have a feeling Gemma is talking out of her back side, hmm...

Imperial don't do eco

I think she meant universities in general. And, Nottingham grads do get jobs in the city. In last years FSA graduate programme, 11 out of 44 grads were from Nottingham uni.

No but they do Maths

Guys you have missed my point. You CAN get jobs in the city from Nottingham, but not the really good ones. If you graduate from Nottingham you will probably manage to get a £60k job and if you're happy with that kind of money then fine! But if you want to aim a bit higher, it's probably not the best uni.

Oh reallyyyyy lol

I presume you have an offer to study at Oxbridge/LSE.
