can you reapply to go to a different uni whilst already at uni without dropping out

I am a first year mechanical engineering student and would like to know if i could apply through ucas to goto a different university and do a diferent course but i dont want to drop out just in case i dont get a place for when i reapply. if i did get the place i would drop out.

Yes, you can.

Just be aware that the other Uni will want a convincing reason for your switch and will want to know your current Uni grades.
And, you will obviously still have to meet their A level and GCSE requirements in full.
