No, but I'm applying there

I live in Stourbridge though, so not very far to travel AT ALL.

My predicted grades are: 3a*s 5As 3Bs

If you lived closer you would probably get in, not sure if it changes as you live slightly further away.

They said if you average predicted grade is a a/b they have to take you? I was a little confused

They dont have to take anyone.

But you can usually get in with grades of a/b.

They say that most students have a broad mixture of A,B,C grades.

They also say that you are categorized:

Category 1 is students attending schools in the Dudley LEA area

Category 2: Students resident within Stourbridge but attend schools outside the Dudley LEA

Category 3: Students living and attending schoold within the Black Country.

ETC....

So my initial point was that the further away you are from the college the less of a priority you are.

Out of interest, what are subjects do you want to take?

I wouldnt recommend doing Further Maths without Maths...

Reply 5

well itll be maths + fm, physics and chemistry.. why i only noted 3 there

Reply 6

Sounds like you'd get in with those kinda grades (everyone above) as long as you have reasonable personal statements and referances from teachers :-) Message me if you want any advice

Hi there! I go to King Ed's and I'm doing AS-Levels in Maths, Further Maths, Physics and Chemistry. The grades mentioned so far are fine, although remember you need at least a B at GCSE in the subjects you want to do. Unfortunately I can't give any advice about the interviews because I didn't have one. Do feel free to ask me other questions though.

As for what the place is like in general, I love it. You get treated much more like an adult and you can refer to (most) teachers by their first name. I haven't been bullied there either, which makes a welcome change to the twelve years of bullying I've been through at school. One downside is that I miss wearing a uniform but I think I must be in the minority. Besides, you can always get a college hoodie!

Hay i got to King Eds too, i'm studing AS philsophy, early modern history, human bio and psychology. I think you need 5 GCSE C and above or 6 C's to be accepted.
King Eds is great much better than school. Your treated more like and adult and most of the people that go to King Eds want to learn and are really friendly. I have new friends at King Eds and most of the teachers are nice and you can have a laugh with.
Also we get cake in philosophy so definatly no complaints there!!

4-5 miles for me.. if i get rejected from KE im going to end up going to sutton which is 1 and 1/2 hours away :'(

Hi, i'm applying for KE too, I'm in cateogry 1 which i guess is an advantage for me but my grades at the moment may not be good enough :s. I know i won't get str8 in.
I've got A- maths, B- Eng, B- Lit.
Most other ppl who apply 2 KE, have like mostly A's n A*'s.
Few ppl from my school have already got accepted or got letters 4 an interview like my nxt door neighbour, so why haven't I? :frown:. Is it cuz the letters are only sent close to the interview dates?
should i b worried?

Reply 13

What were your total grades? Ive known people who got into ke to do "soft" subjects with only b's and c's, and i only had my acknowledged postcard on the 31st !!! stupid teachers said it was sent weeks back

Theres plenty of people at King Eds with those kinda grades for all subjects - even things like sciences etc. I'd say the average is a mix of Bs, As, and maybe a couple of Cs

If i dont get even an interview with AAABBBC something is wrong then

Reply 16

It depends... Only 7 subjects may be a disadvantage. Alot of people may have the same "mix" of grades doing 9/10 subjects at GCSE. Though your referance may come into it too

Reply 17

8 sorry, one of those 8 is a BTEC first diploma which KE count as 2 i think instead of 4

Reply 18

Still could be a problem, being a vocational course, and less GCSES or eqivelent overall.

Still, as far as i know, they send out the 1st batch of letters in dec / jan to people they can accept straight away (as in, all As and A*s, and good referance). Then they do interviews around now with people they arent certain about (bad referances maybe, or some low grades), then decide about everyone else after the appliaction deadline (around now) and after the interviews have been done. So it may be a few weeks.

Maybe you could phone the college?

you don't need straight A and A* at GCSE to do Alevels at King Eds, I've got 2 A's 6 Bs and 2 Cs and D (won't mention that one) and i don't do soft AS levels.

Also Embjar is right 7 GCSEs may come as a slight disadvantage most people i know do have 9-11 GCSE's with a mixture of results.
And some people don't get replys till late Feburary or early March, sometimes depends when you school sent off you applications to them. Phone the college and see whats happening

Sorry its a bit incoherent and ignore it if it makes no sense
