I've messed up on my coursework!

I am doing English Literature AS this year, and this is my first piece of coursework on Much Ado About Nothing.

I have to hand in the coursework tomorrow, and I was talking to the teacher today and she said that as long as I did all the things she told me to do from the first draft, I would get a C.

I am very disappointed in myself now, because I've always been an A/A* student, and now I'll get a C.

The teacher said that it was okay for the first piece of coursework in Year 12, but I was wondering whether I will be able to get an A now in AS Level? I'm doing the AQA board, and the coursework is about 25%.

haven't you had any 1st, 2nd etc drafts to hand in?

If you really really really mess up the coursework, and are convinced you can do it better, then you can always do it again.
However, you would have to start again; you wouldn't be able to brush up the piece you've already been working on. It might be a lot of work, but if you're dedicated and you want that A, then I'd say it's definitely worth it.

I handed in a first draft and got that back with improvements to do, but she said they weren't allowed to tell you what grade the piece was. So I assumed the improvements would help me achieve the best possible grade, which the teacher thinks is a C.

We were also only allowed to hand in one draft.

Oh, and when would I redo the coursework? This year in May or something?

By rights you could start it now. But you wouldn't be able to submit until April I think it is with AQA.

what?! , she should be able to say what grade your coursework is roughly at, what i say you should have done is posted your courework up on tsr and asked someone who has done coursework for AQA and who got an A to check over it for you, but if the taecher wants the best for you she would have given you three drafts.

Afterall that C the teacher gives you is not your final grade. I know some people whose teacher marked the coursework and gave it an A grade, but when sent to the examiners got a D, likewise another person went from a D with teachers to B with examiners, so all is not lost.

All the Best,
Michael

P.S. This is something that counts towards your final grade, i suggest you take it up with the head of department and bring our parents in to make sure you can do it again.

^^ All right thanks for your help everyone

So basically there is no way that I can get an overall A if I get a C in my coursework, even if I get an A in the rest of my 75%?

i wouldn't say there is no way, but it will be an uphill struggle and you'll obviously have to get AAA in your other 3 modules, high A's though. The mark bands are not that far apart from each other.... only by 3 marks maximum. Seriously don't let this put you down, because you'll just end uf failing the rest, see it as a motivation factor.

Yes, there is still a chance of you getting an A overall. But if you get a good A in coursework it takes the pressure off in exams a little bit.

Well then, I better get revising for my Spies exam on Wednesday :p:

Don't worry about coursework too much. My friend got a C in her A-level coursework and got an A overall.
Not sure whether it's internally or externally assessed at AS AQA, but if it's externally then a fresh pair of eyes may mean it gets a higher mark than your teacher expects it too. If it's marked by your teacher make sure you put EVERYTHING in that they reccommed, also keep in mind what they like (e.g. psychological readings/ critical discussion/ feminist views) and whack as much as that in to make them happy. I hope it goes well for you. You can always make it up with the exams.

What's the title of the coursework?

I think you can be asked to be entered for the exam? But I don't know, your teacher might argue that you had your chance.

Good luck.

When is deception acceptable? Discuss how Shakespeare presents the theme of deception in ‘Much Ado About Nothing.’

It's sort of two questions really, but we have to focus more on the second one.

I did Much Ado last year for AQA as an exam, but before then the school had taught it for the coursework. I got 100% and I've seen a few exemplers of A grade courseworks (we were given them instead of exam answers) irrelevant really, - what have you mentioned?

I've talked about the three major types of deception, and then explained how they are presented and how they come about, and whether or not they are acceptable.

So first I talked about self-deception mainly being presented through Beatrice and Benedick, and how much they have deceived themselves.
Then I went on to malevolent deception mainly presented through Don John, and how his plans cause misery, and so this is unacceptable.
Lastly I did benevolent deception mainly through Benedick and Beatrice's gulling scenes, and how Shakespeare uses comedy in them and stuff, and how it is for good so it is acceptable.

I also talked about how weak and easily deceived Claudio could be, and how sometimes malevolent deception arises from benevolent. I also talked a bit about the structure of the gulling scene, and how the audience reacts to things etc.

You could make reference to A1s1 'in the figure of a lamb did the feats of a lion' i.e. appearance being deceptive, the same with the masked ball and how the wooing of Hero is done with Don Pedro instead of Claudio. Also the Friar's deception at the end leads to the final resolution - so in that sense it is acceptable.

I don't know if that is any help, have you fully analysed the A.O.s?

I've done the things in bold already, but thanks for the other bit.

I have analysed the AOs as much as I can, but I think I need to comment on language, form and structure a bit more, so I'm doing that now.
