It has been roundly ****e every time I went last term, and got progressively worse as the term went on. Music is pretty much the same as every other college ent (with the exception of Clare which is almost solely DnB).

any college that calls their bops 'pavs' automatically dooms it to ****ness.

Not so fast. :p: Whilst Clare is known for the DnB, there's several Fat Poppadaddies cheese/soul nights in there, along with several other kinds of music- it's not JUST DnB. Thank god!

The Churchill Pav has a generally good reputation for a fun night out.
If you like that kind of thing.

Reply 5

They pretty much play cheese. It's good fun if you're wasted. I prefer King's/Clare Cellars.

Reply 6

It's a long way for what I can get much closer to home. I don't generally like DnB but last term I went to Clare on a DnB night and it was great.

I've been to pav once... it was ok but not great (they were auctioning off the gentlemen of the college for charity; it was impossible to get to the bar for crowds, without going round and through the bar store or something). To be honest it struck me as just an oversized college bop. Oh, a guy I know from school is currently Churchill ents officer so don't diss it too much!

Went to King's once last term for their psy-trance night... wasn't impressed there either particularly as they were charging a
few quid to get in and it wasn't particularly comfortable inside; they had all these ventilation fans which I damn wished they'd actually switch on because it got so stuffy.

thanks guys and is it like the usual cost eg 4/5 pounds?

Reply 9

I've never paid to go to a pav...

Pav is free, it generally consists of the Churchill rugby team taking their tops off and getting rowdy on the steps then somone falling off a podium or something. The 'main room' is mostly cheese, indie and some rnb and stuff, the 'second room' is DJed by different people every week who can play anything they want - tends to be indie by and large, as most people are students and therefore looooooooove indie music, but get some metal and some electro and stuff as well.

I think I probably prefer Clare, but that is mainly just because I know pretty much everyone at Pav so it is a bit claustrophobic. King's is **** though, and so are Sidney Sussex - it's probably better than both of them, and certainly cheaper (well to get in, sidney bar prices more than make up for that I guess)...

Of course they are! We don't have space for much else. Sometimes they're amazing if there's a good crowd of people and the theme is good, but some of them have been rubbish.

With ale £1 per pint at the moment and shots 80p Sidney certainly has its plus sides! When I went to Clare it struck me that it would be a really good venue if they removed the DnB and replaced it with a Jazz band...

This year the themes are all going to be good! However, as one of the Sidney Ents Reps this year I'm no doubt a little biased!

We used to. There used to be live music every Friday, and every other Sunday too. Then a couple of years ago we got Ents officers who're into DnB, and now the seeming entire point is to run Ents that appeal to other students but not those from Clare.

HOWEVER, we do run Jazz nights, two every term, and they're pretty damn good. They're far smaller than Jazz@Johns, but they're better because a) we're not Johns :p: and b) Clare Jazz has a pretty good reputation and the acts are normally awesome. Clare Comedy is worth getting to, also.

Can you please translate this for those of us who are not fluent in Cambridge abbreviations?

Queens' Ents. Run once a week at Queens College, very cheesy, loads of fun. normally populated almost entirely by Queens and Pembroke students.
