Probably quite a few but I bet they don't all capitalise every word in their sentences.

I don't really know about the actual university (although I would make an educated guess of 'a fair few) but Durham city has very little ethical diversity. Not that it should really influence your choices though. Good luck.

Does it matter?

I am probably one of those:smile:

and it's expectable that not many asians are going there.

...has very little ethical diversity.

Yeah, there's a pro-life society but no pro-choice society.

Don't be pedantic.

And why does it matter anyhow.

Exactly.

OP, for the record there are quite a fair few Asians in Durham, though needless to say I haven't bothered to count them. It is sad that you care tbh.

why do people always make threads on these stupid questions! Why does it matter?! It's not going to alter your university experience if noone asian is going to Durham!

no that's my point. the only difference between an asian and caucasian isn't just their skin colour you know. if that were the case, then yes, the OP wouldn't ask. asians and non asians do possess other different attributes bar skin colour you know. hence the OP asked.

the most obvious difference between asians and non asians is skin colour. but that doesn't mean it's the only difference.

I just felt like sparking a debate.

I must know how many people of Irish origin are going to Durham this year! If I don't know then I'll never enjoy my experience. If I come across anybody blonde I think I'll cry! haha.

Reply 17

Hmmm
At my college the asians mostly hang out with the asians...
It's sad really
:frown:

Reply 18

Hmm.. I must remember to find out if there's any other brown-haired, green-eyed, short-arse, part-irish natsci students going in 2008.. =/ OMG! *runs off on a frantic search*

All these people who are jumping on the OP need to lay off

The fact is this person probably lives in a mostly asian community and to my mind it is only natural to feel a bit apprehensive about suddenly being flung in with people who don't have the same background as you.

Of course, in an ideal world race should not matter at all and nobody should be worried about it. But we do not live in such a world.

I would like to think that if I was thinking of applying for a uni that was nearly all asian that it wouldn't even cross my mind, but to be honest I really don't know that it wouldn't.

Can we please just answer this guys question and try to ease the concerns rather than jumping all over him and effectively calling him racist.
