Budgeting is always hard, and you will make mistakes (as everyone does). Keeping regular checks of your bank account can help. Sometimes it can be a good idea to make a spreadsheet with all your monthly expenditure so you can check it doesn't exceed your income. There are also lots of websites and apps which can help you to make a budget.

Don't buy books before you start. The uni library should have pretty much anything you will need so I would recommend having a look at them first to see if you will use them enough to buy them. You can also often get them second hand online or from past students for much less than the RRP.
