Ever you ever considered that your one of the reasons that people are so against Christianity. I know religions are there but i dont like it when i'm shopping in the street and some guy is bellowing out that if i dont repent my sins i'm going to hell. Well i dont think that i have done anything dreadfully sinful-I volunteer in my community in different projects with the homeless, drug users, people having troubles with their sexulaity-i mean all sorts. I dont think that there is anything wrong with sex before marriage and homosexuality as the church would have me believe.
It seems more important that individuals seek religion themselves when they are ready and lead good lives and help they're communities than trying to convert everybody.

The sad fact is that unless you believe Jesus was the Son of God who came to Earth to die for our sins and so open the way to HEAVEN for us, you will go to HELL, no matter how many good deeds you have done. Don't lose this chance to save yourself!!

Anyone who agreed with the pseudo-Christian and faux-Creationist ramblings I posted in this thread should be deeply ashamed. Hopefully I've shown how nonsensical and ludicrous those beliefs are.

Some of you atheists, though, should also try being a bit more tolerant and patient with those who have endured generations of religious indoctrination. The non-existence of god may be obvious to you but it is not so easy for theists to grasp that life has no meaning, there is no afterlife and the universe has no creator. I do, however, passionately believe in spreading the Good News of atheism and encourage conversions to the true faith!

i think it's all about faith if you don't believe it's up to you and you'll only find out whether God exists when you die

well the way i see it, people thought god was in the sky, but we have been there and seen nothing..

and that the devil was below the earth, again been there done that got no t-shirt.

religion (god) is telling people whats right and wrong, but u dont need a supposedly 2 thousand year old book to tell you that, its just up to u whether u follow it or not.

i dont believe there is a god, but if it helps ppl think whats right and wrong i dont see a problem.

however i dont believe a lot of thisgs said in the bible, seems they are verging on stupid :P

Hey,

I agree, God and religion are personal beliefs, and it is not right nor wrong - people can believe what they want to believe but they should respect other people's beliefs and opinions.

OK, c ya,

Unfortunately, religious people always try to inflict their beliefs on us in a mistaken notion that their particular brand of morality will somehow improve society and prepare us for heaven.

Atheists are supposed to respect the beliefs of theists, whereas theists are perfectly free to condemn atheists and followers of other religions to hell and damnation. Doesn't seem like much of a fair deal.

Theists must also (but rarely do) shoulder the inescapable burden of moral responsibility for the terrorist actions of their co-religionists.

I found it almost disturbingly easy to write the kind of pseudo-scientific/philosophical/theological drivel that theists and deists come up with all the time to justify their absolutely irrational beliefs.

The worst is that I had some people agreeing with me!

Take this corker for instance:

I agree that faith is irrational.

Yet, it helps people get through tough patches (even though it's not actually true).

So... is it really irrational if it makes life easier?

By the way - I am totally anti-religious, would like to hear what people think though.

On a personal level, faith may benefit the individual but religions are mass movements that concentrate power, wealth and other resources and exist to increase the infuence of their beliefs over society.

Faith may well be a personal issue but any emotional support is does provide is tainted by the inherent falsity of their beliefs in a better afterlife, rather than making the most out of the short time they really have.

Religion seems largely to be used as a means to keeping the poor and destitute in their place and the rich and powerful in theirs.

The word "god" is much too confining. I certainly don't believe in a the large benevolent, conscious, beardy character that constitutes the christian god, but i believe in something. The trouble is we just aren't advanced enough to understand the universe, and maybe we never will be. Therefore faith is requiered by athiests and god-squadders alike, as a way of interpreting what we can't understand.

Fellow scientsists...think of it this way.
Whats matter made up of? molecules, made up of atoms, made up of protons, electrons and neutrons, made up of smaller particles........made up of "quantum string" or something. But what's that made up of?
You cant keep going smaller and smaller in the hope of finding one thing of which everything is made of, because everything is made of something else. Therefore, certaily in my lifetime, we will never 'get to the bottom of it'. Thus faith (not necessarily via prescription to a religion) is required.
