The Student Room Group

Don't know how to approach

Basically, this is another thread for advice on a woman...

We're both 17, in sixth form and we both do English Lit. We have two teachers for the class, with one teacher, he hardly lets us talk so it's not great to socialise in... but with the other teacher, we are pretty much free to shout accross the class room unless he has a serious discussion with us. I sit near her for some rooms we are in (Either on the same table, or the table closest to it) but for some reason, I find it hard to talk to her as she almost always sits next to one of her closest guy friends from primary school.

I'm not the greatest guys at winning over girls or most confident guy, but I'm not exactly a guy who can't bring up a decent converstation.

So in short, where the hell do I start with her

Ask her something about the course.
"have you read the book yet?"
"Do you understand what the book is about?"
"Can I borrow your notes?"

Yes, and that way you can bore yourself into her pants. :p:

Ask her why she gets a funny, squiffy look on her face when she has to answer a question. Tell her she reminds you of a girl you met on holiday who turned out to be the daughter of a pirate. Basically say ANYTHING that isn't "can I borrow your notes". Honestly.

Sprawl yourself across her table,

In all fairness, I asked a hott girl on my course if she'd handed her assignment in, we got talking, got onto places where she liked going out clubbing, then she turned round to ME and asked when we were going to to go for a drink... GREAT SUCCESS... so I dont think asking about an initially dull thing to start off with is that bad...

Presumably you're reasonably good-looking?

I dont know, its a bit of a hard one to answer, "do you think your good looking". I wouldnt say im Ugly, but im hardly main stream good looking either. I dont think looks are too important. I have excema all over my arms and neck, so some people would probably consider me unattractive... but I've had it all my life, and I reali dont worry about it anymore.
Its a confidence thing, and a personality thing... Girls like confidence... and I'd say im pretty confident.

yeah, so long as you don't ONLY ever talk about work/ the course with her, it's a fairly standard way to start a conversation

Give her a biscuit.

She might think you're trying to fatten her up.

Sprawl yourself across her table,

I've done that kind of thing before, and she just frowned at me and walked off.

Someone actually advised me to offer girls biscuits to get them interested. The problem is, I don't know what biscuits girls like... someone tell me?

They mostly like chocolate biscuits, but shortbread is good too, it's a bit posh, you know.

"What biscuits to girls like?"

It's like they're a separate species...

Reply 15

They like the kind laced with love potions :s-smilie:
