Citalopram

I was prescribed this today for depression and anxiety and am quite scared by some of the side effects in the first week. Don't really want advice, the doctor gave me plenty. I know it's different for everyone.. just any words or if anyone has been prescribed it.

Yeah I'm on it and due off soon.

The side effects can be tough in the first couple of weeks but ride with it and it should be worth it.

I've not experienced bad side effects on it; tiredness and insommnia mostly (great combination!), and some headaches. They've pretty much gone now. Well, I seem sleepy all the time, but I think I'm just lazy!

Hi . Try not to fall into the trap of expecting all these side effects and worrying about it as a result; okay, so I'm telling someone with anxiety not to worry, but you get the idea. Lots of people take Citalopram, the main side effect you might have given you've been given it for anxiety (as well as depression) is being a bit jittery for the first 3-7 days. The BNF suggests taking a half dose (10mg) for the first week, and if your doctor hasn't advised this, it might be wise - it helps reduce this feeling.

Otherwise, I hope you feel a bit better in a few weeks .

I'll be taking a low dose on it to start with anyway for that reason.. thank you all!
For me, Citalopram has been the most effective of all the antidepressants I've ever been prescribed over the last decade. I did experience some insomnia over the first few weeks, but once that wore off, I had no side-effects whatsoever. Good luck!
