Never having had a hamster, I think these stories are funny! When my cat was little enough he liked to crawl inside the ancient electric organ that we inherited from the previous owners of the house... there was no hope but to unplug it, and wait for him to come out...

My dog used to sit in the tumbley when he was a puppy. Thank god we never shut him in though

Yeah I think so.
My cat has gone down a hole by the washing machine twice. I also found her in someone else's garage 5 days after I thought she'd gotten lost and/or run over. She was a bit then but no worse for wear.

Have you cleaned out his cage?

Get a shoe box and cut a hole about the size of a loo roll tube in the side, scatter some sawdust from his cage inside the box and mix it with some new stuff, then put a little of his old bedding and a little of his new bedding inside and put the lid back on. Put this near to where you lost him at the side of the room and scatter some food around it. Hopefully this should temp the little thing back home.
