To be honest, I don't know much about technology. Whether some emulators are better than others, I don't know. However, the Sega Mega Drive IS the best games console ever to have graced this earth.

I know, I had the japanese version when I was at school, I had the jap version imported so I could play 'super magical flying hat turbo adventure', as it wasn't available in the UK.

Online gaming on that is blocked as well. No WOW and the like. The only way you could do it is get a mobile broadband modem, though they have a 3GB fair use policy and the signal may not be good enough to do it.
