I get cramps, but not so bad that I faint or anything. The only people I know that have that severe period pain have been to their doctor to try and sort it out.

try all the usual methods first - hot water bottles, gentle exercise, couple of paracetamol etc.. if none of them works then maybe visit your gp.

heres some article on relieving period pain.. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/archive/index.php/t-28145.html
might be useless

If you're fainting, you should probably go to see a GP - seriously, you shouldn't have to put up with being written off for a day each month. There's various options - better painkillers, something to stop you from feeling as sick, going on the pill - so it's well worth a visit.

Otherwise, as soon as it starts take ibuprofen regularly, three times a day. Don't wait for it to hurt, start taking it as soon as you can - it works considerably better this way than waiting for it to hurt. If you have a regular cycle, even better - start taking the ibuprofen two days before so it's properly in your system by the time your period starts. If you need more pain relief, try co-codamol (paracetamol and codeine).

I used to get that. If you go and see your doctor, he/she can do something about it. I personally went on the Pill; however, if that's not the way you want to go I believe there are other, hormonal treatments which can help make it easier.

Go on the pill. Or take Ponstan (mefenamic acid).

Yep go to your GP. My colleague at work used to pass out with the pain frequently and her doctor took it very seriously.
You could be fainting for two reasons, the pain, or just the extreme amount of blood loss making you feel weak.
I've had bad period pains in the past so I know some of the options available from the doctor:

1) The Pill - I'd definately recommend this. Your period pains will be reduced so much, and you've got the added bonus of a lighter flow and a regular cycle.

2) Pain killers and muscle relaxing things which stop your womb cramping up and squeezing excessively (similar to the movement of contractions).

3) Pain killers which make your body form a sort of net over the womb lining to prevent to much blood loss and pain.

Otherwise, just stock up on the old feminax and have lots of hot water bottles!

I'm sorry to hear you have it so bad =(
Anyway, I have something like this - you chuck it in the microwave for not-very-long and it's much less faff than hot water bottles. Mine is about 4x8 inches and it smells all nice and laverderry, and it's small enough that you can wander about with it in a hoodie pocket. Obviously, if you're out of the house for the day, that's not much use, but it's good for at home.

[I had a hot water bottle burst on me when I was little - thankfully it had cooled down, but I woke up totally soaked. It put me off hot water bottles somewhat.]

Ive tried the heating bag before, it helped slightly but i know i shouldn't moan about it, all girls get it, but its such a pain lol. I have considered going on the pill but i would prefer that as a last resort. Paracetamol does work, but like an hour after the pain  Thanks for the responses everyone

Whenever it comes to my monthly cycle, i get the worst pains ever. I won't be moody, but usually on the first day i end up fainting and in the most horrific pain ever. Then comes the sickness and i honestly cry my eyes out until the pain has gone. So i was wondering whether any other girls get pain as bad as this, what you do to help reduce/get rid of the pain ETC

i never get pains, but i tend to feel sick, nauseated etc. the hot water bottle makes me feel even worse.

I just tried mefenamic acid for the first time this month  I've fainted a couple of times with mine and often miss a day or two of school. This is the first time I can honestly say I've been able to forget I'm on my period. It really helped with the pain, I only took it twice despite my dr telling me to keep taking it but I didn't feel I needed to.

It's worth a shot

This happens to me, and I just take painkillers and try my best to get to sleep. Also a hot water bottle helps. I am used to it now, and I have noticed that the pain is slowly becoming bearable.
