People in my college. So flatmates I guess would be the equivalent, but included in that are most people on my course from my college.

Reply 3

Flatmates, not much. Coursemates a lot more. It depends on your experience really. If you have more lectures than seminars/tutorials/workshops then you probably won;t be in small enough groups to meet people on your course. You may talk to people in lectures but I've found that I met most of my coursemates in my seminars and workshops.
It just depends really. Some people hate their flatmates and love their coursemates, others are vice versa.

Flatmates and friends of flatmates. I barely see any of my coursemates off-campus (or at least don't specifically go to see them).

Reply 5

I tend to socialise more with my flatmates and all our friends (it's like a big family!).
Don't forget friends you'll make at societies, protests and...facebook

For my two penn'orth...

With your course mates you have the initial rapport based on your course. You'll discuss not just the course and lecturers and all that, but inevitably the similar career prospects you'll enjoy. Flatmates on the other hand are a lottery. Some find their friends for life on the same square footage, others feel distinctly different and isolated.

EDIT yep, "distinctly different" is a bit :s-smilie:.

just flatmates tbh

Reply 10

80% flatmates 20% course mates.

Though thats quite a lot for the people i live with, most if them dont really know anyone from their course.

Neither. Society-mates ftw

Neither. Society-mates ftw

Me too - neither. I get on OK with flatmates and wih course mates, but my real friends are all from societies, so I would advise you to join up!

I have two core groups of friends - those who are on my course and in my halls (but not my block) and their flatmates, and friends from a society. I don't socialise with my flatmates, and friends from my course who aren't in my halls I only tend to see during the day, have lunch with etc (most of these people are mature local students with like families and stuff. lol).

Flatmates, but probably only for the first year. Coursemates are the ones you are going to be seeing day in day out for the next 3/4 years, unless of course you are renting with some flatmates.

Reply 15

I live with two third years on the same course, are they coursemates or flatmates?

Reply 16

both?

Reply 17

I socialise more with my coursemates in the daytime, and my flatmates at night-time. It's very rare that I'd go out to a club, for example, with my coursemates.

Reply 18

I socialise with more coursemates, and their flatmates. Although I am friendly with my flat mates we don't go out together or anything.

Reply 19

Coursemates and their friends, only because I don't really have much in common with my flatmates.
