whatever the dentist will do can't be any worse than the pain that you are already feeling

Reply 2

Good point, my friend had one, and the dentist kindly popped it for him. Eugh.

Reply 3

He has a point, I'm terrified of them too. Best to just bite the bullet and go for it, it'll end ok.

my uncle once thought he had an abscess, it turned out his entire mouth was fudged and he had to have all his teeth taken out.

Don't worry though, that happened because he didnt look after his teeth  im sure youll be fine, i just thought id scaremonger a tiny bit

Reply 5

Oh, christ. Thanks for that !

Reply 6

It could just be one of your wisdom teeth coming through. But I know nothing. What does an abscess look like?

Reply 7

I thought it was that too, but then I had a look inside my mouth and there is a erm funny coloured looking cist type thing. This is gross beyond words.

i had an absess in the root of my front tooth!
that was stupidly painful
and i had to have my tooth drilled and the absess drained and have a root canal filling done
but that was a while ago now. and my teeth moved as i got older so bacteria got into my gums where my filling was and caused another absess on the root of my tooth. so i had to go into hospital and have an operation to remove the root of that tooth, there was blood and stitches and everything. it was horrible :frown: but im all good now (Y)
im pretty sure whatever is up with you isnt all that bad, its just the pain thats the awful thing! take lots of ibuprofen! or like someone said it could be your wisdom teeth coming through?

Reply 9

Ouch! Sounds painful.

I've never had one, but I hope it isn't too bad for you.

*hugs*

I am like a year overdue for a dental check up. I can tell tomorrow is going to be horrendous, the thought of anybody coming near my mouth with any sort of black and decker type extension makes me want to vomit.

Reply 11

I know what you mean :frown: I am terrified of dentists too. I hate it even when they get that pointy thing and prod at the teeth.

Reply 12

Generally if it is an abcess they'll give you antibiotics first before they'll do any work on you.

Reply 13

yum amoxicillin  no its tastes like pva glue.

Reply 14

Give it a good licking, might taste nice.

Reply 15

i hate amoxycillin.

does anybody else get headaches when they stop taking it?

Reply 16

Amoxycillin made my throat swell up so much that I needed an adrenalin shot (at least I think that's what it was!) Turns out I'm allergic

I had one last year, my dentist took the tooth out that was in the way of the abscess and poked around for a bit. Even after having the injection, this hurt alot and it turned out that it was infected. (an infected abscess how unlucky am i?!) so she put the tooth back and gave me some antibiotics to get rid of the infection and within 2 weeks the pain from the abscess had disappeared completely. That was over a year ago now and i havent felt any pain since, yet she still insists i need root cannel treatment to remove it! I'm sure she works under commission :p:

ksdfjhsdjkfhsjfhajksdfhjkasdf i'd rather have a root canal than have to have the root of my tooth removed because its got infected again by having my gums cut open and then stitched back up again!
but maybe that just happened to me. and i had a root canal. but yeh. if my teeth hadnt have moved it wouldnt have got infected again and i wouldnt have had to have that done!

This thread isn't exactly reassuring the OP!

So far we've had:
having all teeth removed
multiple abscesses
mouth operations
headaches
throat swelling

Once I had an abscess and my entire jaw had to be removed.
