Stupid reason for doing medicine?

Hi guys I'm panicking,

Basically I sent off my application for med and I'm happy with my personal statement but when Icread my reference it was absolutely disgusting. Usually a lot of people have personal reasons that inspired them to study medicine but I literally sparked my initial interest from a TV show called Operation Ouch when I was in Year 7. I loved it so much and from there I did more work experience and volunteering etc and summer schools blah blah blah. But the tv show thing is the first line of my reference. Wouldn't the admission tutors laugh and just reject me straight off? (I have a rejection from Bristol so far and haven't heard from the others yet) is that the reason?

Hello again, I said this before, and I'll say it again.

Bristol rejected me instantly 5 years ago, then I got offers/interviews from everywhere else.
It seems that Bristol automatically rejected you based on not meeting the minimum requirements for something or another. (Happened to me but can't remember what I didn't meet)

Also, your reason for being inspired is authentic and legitimate. If I read that I would be more inclined to invite you for an interview because most of the boring crap people put on their personal statements is repetitive and cliche and quite frankly fake.

Do not worry !

It seems as if you have done enough work experience and volunteering as that now your reasons for doing medicine are perfect, it's just that uniquesly this stemmed from a TV show. That's not a bad thing as long as you word it correctly in your PS. Bristol is a 60% PS university. If you have been rejected from there then there is either something seriously wrong with the 40% or you have come across incorrectly to admissions tutors. Although this may be because you did not include any extra curriculars or did something else wrong that did not meet Bristols criteria. The rejection may not be due to the "Operation Ouch" thing. So have hope - you can still get into medical school. Plus there us nothing you can do now you have sent off your application. Enjoy Christmas, revise and relax.

My tutor asked me what made me want to do medicine in the first place. So I said from the very beginning that that TV show kickstarted everything. Obviously there are other contributing factors but that TV show is what started it all.

My college sent Bristol the wrong predicted grades initially but then sent an email apologising that the predicted grades are different? Do you think I could call them up? The admissions tutor did reply and said they'll change it on their system so is there a point?

I enjoy it too but it’s not the best idea to put it down on your PS. Yeah they must be rlly close😊

it will make them laugh and see you as a real person. with a sense of humour and someone who can connect to patients on a human level too! don't stress. As long as you made your personal reference really good highlighting what makes you unique and suited to medicine, don't worry

Perhaps you could email Bristol and ask for feedback instead. If Bristol confirmed the change in predicted grades then I assume they are 100% right. So ask more generally for feedback via email. Phone calling for feedback is not advised.

they would probably laugh and might even make their day but then they would reject you! But only if that was the only reason you put as to why you want to go into medicine
