Equivalent qualification to the ECDL??

Basically need to have ECDL or equivalent for this job I'm pursuing, I've never even heard of it so i googled it. And it listed the sections as databases, spreadsheets etc. and I'm sure I covered this when I did CLAIT in year 9, and indefinately when I did GCSE I.C.T, so would this be a sufficient enough equivalent to ECDL, because I really have no idea, and can't find out anywhere.

I've done both, and to be frank CLAIT was more involved than ECDL. If you have CLAIT I&II (spreadsheets/databases/word processors) It is easily sufficient. In fact CLAIT lvl I is about the standard of ECDL. ECDL has some stuff about powerpoint as well but sounds like you will have covered that. ECDL is pretty basic to be honest.
I can't remember what CLAIT it was, and I don't remember even getting a certificate but it was so easy and we all passed i did it almost 5 years ago, man im old lol would it still be valid?

From what you have said ie studying ICT I'd expect you have a good basic working knowledge of the packages in ECDL. ECDL is fairly straightforward, its geared to bringing PC illiterates up to a basic functional level. Tell them you have been using Power point etc in your studies on the form. I'm sure they'll be happy with that, and the CLAIT qualification.
thankyou sidhe have some rep  ... i just tried to give you some but it says your barred :s-smilie:

I've also completed the ECDL course. Its very easy to do, and the only part which may cause any difficulty would be Microsoft Access. But if you're a regular computer user, it should be more than easy.

Have any of you gone on to do the expert level? If so did you get the AMBCS title?

No, I didn't do that one.

I completed the course within one week, and paid £30 for it. Sounds like decent money for a very easy course.

I think I would've also done alright with the Expert qual. too, but I just can't be asked.

ECDL is equivalent to a GCSE in ICT, or at least I convinced the place where I work that it is.

I'm doing ECDL at the moment coz I'm getting it free!! It is apparently worth an NVQ 2 (quote Wikipedia) which to me is 5 GCSE's at A*-C or a BTEC First Diploma. I'm also studying ITQ 2 with this ECDL course as well whatever that is. I'd say it's def worth doing anyway, but if you are not that interested in an IT career this is the level to do and stop at.

I completed level 2 & 3 ECDL and got ECDL Expert if you want to get AMBCS title you have to pay £66 to BCS for associate membership then you can use AMBCS with your name I chose not to as its not really a necessity.
