Royal Navy Officer CareerWatch
As a university student, I am increasingly spending more and more time thinking about what career I want after completing my degree. My father serves in the British Army and thus I have grown up alongside the military lifestyle which I would very much like to continue, post-graduation.
Over the years, I have always thought about following my father's footsteps into the Army, however, I am increasingly finding myself far more attracted to joining the Royal Navy, more so than the Army.
I am hoping to explain a little about myself and my current ambitions with the hope that you could tell me if they sound plausible and offer any advice?
I am currently a student of Politics and International Relations specialising in Global Governance and Rough Politics (terrorism, piracy, guerilla warfare, etc). I currently work for a tech startup as an Operations Manager and therefore I decided not to apply to URNU (or equivalent) as I feel I would get more valuable work experience through my current role. My aim would be to apply to the Royal Navy in order to complete a commissioning as a Warfare Officer.
I love the idea of leading from the front, taking command of a ship and using my future academic qualifications in order to have an impact on international relations, especially combatting piracy through the Royal Navy.
Does anyone have any advice for the process of applying as Officer, in general? Or perhaps, could anyone offer advice on becoming a Warfare Officer, or any other roles that I might perhaps find interesting?
Please excuse any potential niavity, however, I want to ensure that I prepare myself to be as suitable as possible.
Thanks in advance!
The URNU can be an ideal taster and if you do really want to join the RN there are bursaries that you can receive through University if you do want to go Warfare!
With regards to warfare - you do not necessarily need a degree to join this branch so your degree is only likely to add to any knowledge you may already have of those particular subjects and perhaps offer greater insights to areas you may encounter during your career.
Any other questions please let me know!
Hi horsi711 Hope you're well! I'm just contacting a post I saw of yours in which you gave advice to someone trying to join the navy. I was wondering whether you have Navy experience at all? I currently work at a TV production company and we're looking for a consultant. Best Wishes, Roya Eslami
