Geometric(p) = Number of tosses of a biased coin, with head probability p, up to and including the first head.

NegExp(lambda) = Time between successive events in a Poisson process with intensity lambda.

[Poisson process with intensity lambda = What you get if you randomly throw events on to the time-line, with on average lambda events per unit time.]

Example: In an average year, two car accidents happen on the road past my house. The accidents form a Poisson process with intensity 2. The time between successive accidents has the NegExp(2) distribution.
