I am considering to apply for a PhD (starting from MPhil) at LSE and I was wondering how is it with the entry? Is it difficult to get in?? Is the Masters absolutely necessary for undertaking the MPhil? When do you ussually start to apply for PhD? Would it be to late for me to send my application in March?

The other question I have would be the following: what is actually the use of doing the PhD at some hi-profile institution, when all the research you are doing is on your own. Since there is no teaching, the onlything you get from the university is your supervisor. Does the supervisor really means that much? Is he/she really the reason for saying that the PhD at LSE is worth more then one from some worse-rated university?

Thanks in advance!

P.S.: Which other unis would you recommend for a PhD in Economics?
