# gcse maths circle theorems?

Do you know in gcse maths are there 7 rules for circle theorem or there 9 rules help me i am confused

The old legacy GCSE had 9–the chord rules are not in the new 1-9 spec (hence there are 7 rules now) (or at least the old Edexcel IGCSE had 9 rules; the Edexcel 1-9 has 7 rules–I can’t guarantee this is the same for all Exam boards)

edexcel has 9
1 - tangent and radius meet at 90
2 - 2 radii form an isosceles
3 - the perpendicular bisector of a chord passed through the centre of the circle
4 - the angle at the centre of a circle is twice the angle at the circumference
5 - the angle in a semicircle is 90
6 - angles in the same segment are equal
7 - opposite angle in a cyclic quadralateral add up to 180
8- tangents from the same point are the same length
9 - alternate segment theorem (angle between a tangent and a chord is alwats equal to the angle in the opposite segment)

Some of these are definitions not theorems.
1) not a theorem
2) not a theorem -
4) and 5) are the same theorem

so basically there are 7

Search for 'circle theorems song' on Youtube - there's a great way to remember them with a McFly song!
