Vidal sassoon training academy?

Anyone ever had their hair cut at the training academy/advanced academy for Vidal Sassoon? I usually spend a fair whack on my hair, but i'm so bloody poor at the moment and it's in dire need of help I'm looking to go somewhere cheap and where i know i'll get a decent and stylish cut.

Anyone been/can recommend it or anywhere else in London?

There are reviews on Ciao/Dooyoo.co.uk. Go to the Advanced Academy if you want something really edgy and weird, or the School if you want something traditional.

I've been to Toni & Guy Academy. It was alright.

I'm going to Saco salon today, in Covent Garden. It's normally 50-80 pounds for a cut... I'm getting it for free. I'll let you know later how it goes.

Thanks for the info, i'll have a look into it.
I've never heard of saco, how are you getting it for free!!?
It says on their website that they need hairdressing models, so I called up and said "I wanna be a model" and they booked me an appointment :p: (I called last thursday and got the appointment for today)

Hair by AlanD is pretty good (the one in Croydon anyway) - I can get a good styling for £15, and whenever I've been there it's never fully booked! (Which might give you a hint, but it's not reflected in the result!)
my friend always gets her hair done at the vidal sassoon training place and although her hairstyles are always quite nice they are pretty crazy (for example, once they cut it in a bob length but shaved it at the back and dyed the underneath bit blonde) so if you're daring enough then go for it!

ha, well .. not sure how i'd feel about get the back of my head shaved! I'm open to different colour and stuff though! I always think i should be more daring though, so I guess going there might mean i have to suck it up and be more daring! hehe

It was okay... the girl didn't really do much, just fixed up my layers and fringe. I told her that she could do what she wanted, just not make it too short. I was hoping she'd take it as an opportunity to be creative... but she took a more conservative approach. She didn't seem very confident, but she cut competently. If you go, you should tell them how you want it done. This Japanese girl got a very "avant garde" hairstyle that was like boyishly short in the back and triangular bits framing her face. Weird... but creative. I don't know if it was her idea or the hairdresser's.

She gave me sexy tousled waves, but they were completely messed up by the time I got home, since I walked across Waterloo Bridge in the wind and pouring rain. :frown:
DON'T GO!!! they have absolute beginners there who can't even speak english. the guy cut my hair so the right-hand side was a good 3in shorter than the other side and he didn't even notice until i pointed it out to him.

ah i'm now confused! The reviews i've read online all seem to be fairly good. Perhaps the advanced academy might be better as they wont be such beginners.hmm. Or maybe i'll go to this saco salon as no hero seems to have had a good experience. I'm stuck, i really need a hair cut, but i'm utterly broke, so it has to be cheap! ahhhhhg
Don't listen to that person. Nobody's an "absolute beginner". A lot of them (probably all of them at the advanced academy) are PROFESSIONAL, qualified hairdressers who have gone back to school to brush up or to learn a new technique. And they have a supervisor there watching over every step. They're not going to just cut a huge chunk of hair out...

I went to the advanced academy yesterday and got possibly the best hair cut i've ever had in my life! It's definetely a very drastic style change for me, but i love it! Superb for £11. I'll definetely be going there again.

Pic?

Why was it 11 pounds? Did you get it coloured? They told me a cut was 4.50 for students

I am no longer a student alas :frown: Would have been cheaper if i was a student. Yes, they offered a colour as well, which I said i would like, but unfortunately there wasn't enough time for me to have both a colour and a cut, and i'd not had a skin test so they were reluctant to colour my hair as well. Next time though, next time! £11 for a cut and colour is a freaking bargain!

Re: the colour, they offer 'creative colour' so it wouldn't have been just a straight highlight, they were doing blues/greys/and 'organic colours' at the moment. You have to be pretty open to what they do!
