Universities always give out more offers than they have places, because they know that some people won't accept their offers, and some of those who do won't meet the entry requirements. Because of this, the number of places they 'have left' (in inverted commas because the process of making offers doesn't actually fill any places) by the January deadline is unlikely to impact how many offers they make after this point.
