I've got my boyfriend a silver guitar pick engraved (Stolen idea from someone on this forum!).

I'm liking this idea. May just have to steal it myself.

I'm not gonna see mine on 14th, i'm at uni, but I'll see him the day before.

Might make a card this year. Cheaper than buying one, thats for sure.

Woah, I'm glad mine are at least spread out over 2 weeks! all in one week must be pretty hectic. I'm just annoyed at having my only exam this exam period the day after my boyfriend's birthday :frown: although thankfully he's moving the celebrations to the day after for me...
I think Valentine's Day means more to couples in the first year or so of their relationship. I've been with my other half for years, so we don't really make much of a fuss. We do have a meal - but I think we've only been out for a Valentine's Day meal once - usually, we just stay home and he cooks the main whilst I take care of the dessert. To be honest, I find that an awful lot more romantic than turning it in to a spending spree. Then after food we usually watch a film (nothing mushy though - we both loathe most romantic films) with popcorn and pick&mix and a bottle of red.

Heh.. oh.. and one year, we also decided to make an active stand against buying the usual crap that people buy each other at that time of year... so I bought him a potato masher and a potato peeler (nice ones, mind!) and he bought me a pair of wellies. Hahaha.

However.. if you really are determined to succumb to the commercial frenzy, I suspect a CD/DVD and a bottle of wine would go down well.

I absolutely hate Valentine's Day! I don't understand why people need one particular day to tell their partner they love them, and I just think it's really tacky and commercialised. The best part of 5 years working in a gift shop showed me that people do things because they feel they have to, rather than want to. And no, I'm not a sour singleton!

personally i find things from gift stores LAME
but thats just me :P

has someone already said this becaue I swear I got the idea from this thread? Anyway, I think I'll write a very fancy love letter...
Feb 14th is during the half term holidays for like 99% of schools.
Always is as it is the middle of Feb.

Me and boyf always go to the carvery pub round the corner a week or so before valentines day and usually make a meal and just watch a dvd, none of us are bothered about P.D.O.A you see, and well, it's just really overpriced. He always buys me a dvd and a tddy though, and i buy him CD & DVD.

I want to take my boyfriend to London for Valentines day on an overnight stay, bit of sight seeing etc.
anywhere know a good london hotel which is in a good location and relitavely cheap? (in comparison to the rest of london!)

Try looking up rooms on Travelodge. I've booked in advance and got a £19 room in London before. TL isn't the most romantic of places, but as it's dirt cheap compared to the rest of the city, it frees up more money to spend on a nice romantic meal together, or whatever else takes your fancy.
I don't like Valentines day.

It seems like the entire world goes slightly crazy, buying cards, presents, going out for meals or organising 'romantic' weekends away, etc. What I don't understand is the compulsion to say something on this one day of the year that you should be saying every day you're together with the person you love. If 'I love you' is worth expressing on Valentine's Day, then it's worth expressing every single day that you and your partner are together.

And for that reason, I don't like Valentines day.

All being likely, I'm going to get blind drunk with my housemates. Like we did last year.

God that was depressing :frown:
